Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

First grade students need read along books to develop listening skills, vocabulary (including students learning English as a second language), comprehension skills and reading skills. The urban public school serves many students from poverty.

In the classroom, there are a few books with recordings that I purchased. The students have enjoyed listening to the books and want to hear more books!

The books with recordings on cassette or C.D. would benefit the students. It would help the students to see a connection between speech and print. Students would develop print awareness including where to start reading on the page and following print from left to right. Recalling information about the book develops comprehension skills. The vocabulary of students especially those learning English would be expanded. Listening skills will develop. Remember how much fun it is to listen to books by Dr. Seuss? This project is written to develop many language skills to meet the goals and objectives of first grade students.
