This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Beginning the year with the classroom essentials is so important for students. At the end of every school year, I ask my students to provide constructive criticism on what I could have done differently throughout the year for them to be successful in my class. This feedback is so important for me.

Students reflected on their classroom experiences in my classroom and indicated several areas of improvement.

I was surprised that the majority of the feedback was focused on classroom supplies. Several students asked me to get a better pencil sharpener for the classroom, and I agree. Our old pencil sharpener is not reliable and needs to be replaced. Since they file various essays into a writing portfolio throughout the year, they requested an easier method for filing their work, so I added an acrylic file holder and files that can be labeled for each class to ensure this year's students do not face the same issue. We play learning games throughout the year, and I provide prizes for the winners; however, many felt the prizes were aimed at a younger audience, and they requested a yummy treat instead of the various prizes, so I added chips to this request.

Some of the other basic essentials include Kleenex, chalk, mop pads to keep the floor clean (sometimes they like to work on projects on the floor), ink (students with learning disabilities prefer hardcopy templates instead of the pdf), classroom clock (bigger, brighter numbers to accommodate those visually impaired), 2 classroom calendars (one for the wall and one for my desk), and more.

I kept this request short to focus on the absolute necessities. I appreciate your generosity and consideration.
