My Students

I am a first year teacher for the NYC Department of Education, District 75. I have a 12:1:1 which means I will have 12 students who are on the autism spectrum. Any help offered to this excited and determined teacher will be greatly appreciated.

NYC Teaching Fellows is one of the country’s largest and most selective alternative routes to teacher certification.

Getting accepted and successfully completing the rigorous summer training, is just the beginning of my new career. I have had five years experience as a paraprofessional (teacher's assistant), so finally becoming a teacher is a dream come true! I am eager to meet my students and create a happy learning environment for them.

I got to see my very empty classroom today, and will need help making it as fun and vibrant as I am. I wish I could talk about my students here but I have yet to meet them. Once I do, I know it will be hard to shut me up about how individually amazing they are! I have read through some of their IEP and have an idea of what they will need to learn.

My Project

These items listed are necessary to have in every classroom. I am starting from scratch and added items that I feel are essentials. Many more items will be added to my list once I learn my students and what they require to learn.

These are the essentials that any teacher would need as a first year educator like folders, pencils,and board games.

I am pretty crafty, so I will be creating many of my own decorations and learning material for my students but I will definitely need the laminator/sheets to do so. Many of my students goals are addition and subtraction. I will need manipulative and flash cards to help me teach them math. Analog clocks, and coins/dollars, calculators are all needed to meet their IEP goals. I will need board games and CVC cards to help my students initiate conversation and work on their speech goals.

Organization is key, so some of the material in my cart will help me keep my students' files in order and make my first year teaching easier.
