Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

A typical day in my music classroom involves listening to music, performing music, and learning important facts and stories about music history.

My students live in a high poverty community in New Jersey where they attend a public Kindergarten through eighth grade school.

Although we have no budget for new supplies, they love music class and always make the most out of our class materials, which have mostly been received through DonorsChoose.

My Project

If we receive these supplies, my students will have a new way to approach classical music. They will be able to use the listening maps to follow along to stories such as "Bach's Fight For Freedom" and "Bizet's Dreams." They will learn to differentiate different styles of music and get to enjoy seeing DVD adaptations that are historically accurate, such as the Emmy-winning "Beethoven Lives Upstairs." These materials will heighten their awareness of classical music and help them develop a positive relationship with listening and performing.

These donations will enable my students to take a look into music history.

I know they will be excited and curious to learn more about classical composers and the world they lived in. Above all, it will teach them a love for classical music that they may have for the rest of their lives.
