This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
I teach on California's largest federally recognized Native American tribe's reservation. My school serves approximately 75% Yurok students. The campus is nestled amongst the redwoods where they meet the ocean and river. This school is so rich with culture, with traditional Yurok houses in the front, and a handmade dugout canoe as you enter the front doors. Each child in my classroom absolutely loves learning, although the method and environment in which they thrive vary greatly. We incorporate a variety of learning strategies, group work, and alternative seating and learning options to ensure that each student's needs are met, right where they are. They are truly an incredible group, and I am so lucky and thankful for this new group of learners.
The project provides a great visual that is very durable, meaning it will last for years to come.
The bee's life cycle displays are really engaging because most students haven't been that, that close to a bee before. So students will get a kick out of holding these acrylic insect displays.
I know what your thinking, that's a lot of honey. If there is one thing kids like more then being hands on, it's food. Honey sticks are arguably the most important part of this project. The honey is what's going to make students remember this set of lessons. Honey is a natural sweet treat and I'm sure my students will absolutely love it. Thank you for considering my classroom.
