Our fifth grade team consists of 90 plus students coming from all walks of life in our Title I public school. This will be the largest number of students we’ve served in quite a while. Due to the recent pandemic and ever evolving policies to meet our students’ learning and health needs, it is more important than ever that I become the best teacher I can be, while ultimately meeting their individual needs.
My Project
Recently I dove into information about the 40 Hour a Week Teacher Virtual PD program from NBCT Angela Watson. Over 32,000 teachers have completed this virtual, year long professional development. It is chockful of organizational and technological tools that optimize learning and teaching in the classroom. As more and more challenges come our way with COVID-19 pandemic, it is imperative that I tackle the challenges that lie ahead in our new ‘normal’ by developing myself and my personal productivity. Teachers are looking at ways to effectively reach students virtually and I have already met the challenge by receiving $500 grant in digital student resources. Now it is time to focus on myself and streamlining procedures and practices that optimize student learning. This virtual, online PD will help me do that through a year long reflective process accompanied by digital teacher resources being sent to my electronic mailbox monthly. These resources and reflective practices will help me maximize learning procedures more effectively during this ‘new normal’ we are all trying to acclimate to as we adjust to learning during a pandemic. Streamlining routines and procedures utilizing the tools and techniques of this online program will allow me to more effective and efficient during instructional time. These resources will arrive monthly online, allowing me to target strategies and techniques that will optimize learning for my students through each monthly topic. It will also connect me to a learning community that networks virtually and one that also helps one another navigate through challenges systematically as we face uncharted waters of a worldwide pandemic (that could have us in the classroom or learning virtually, or perhaps somewhere in between).
