This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My class is a full spectrum of learners. There are students who speak English as a first language, whose parents are college educated and have a career. Unfortunately, that is not the norm. Our school is a Title 1 school, with over 90% of the students being on free or reduced lunch. The majority of my students are struggling readers. Even in 5th grade I have students that read on a first grade level. I have students whose first language is not English, who come from broken homes, whose parents work 2,3 and sometimes even 4 jobs just to keep a roof over their heads.

But, even with all those challenges to overcome, they always give 100%.

No matter what is asked of them, they push through because they want more. They want to go to middle school, high school and some even college, hopefully. I instill in them from day one how important it is to always try and always believe that they can do it.

My Project

As the world changes and more emphasis is given on technology and being able to use that technology, the school system is trying to keep up, but it is not always possible with how fast it changes. Teachers spend a lot of their own money on bringing in newer technology and giving the students a chance to use it and learn from it.

I am asking for a new Mac Mini, Dell Monitor and Magic Mouse so that I can help my students learn as much about technology as I can.

I want to help them edit photos for their yearbook, create Power point Presentations about the many science and math lessons we have to learn, and show them the many, many educational apps that the Mac Store has available. My plan is to let the students use the new computer as a movie maker, music player, note taker, web searcher and opportunity maker in the class. Not only will they learn the task at hand but it will open a whole new world of technology for many of them that don't ever get to use it.
