My Students

We are a class filled with young children who bring their different and similar experiences and stories into our learning community! We are curious about the world around us and we are so eager to explore every part of it together. As we wonder, we are working together on piecing our ideas and questions to form our inquiry study through research and project-based learning. Our children's interests, questions, and observations interweave together to guide us on our journey of wonder.

We are always on the hunt for materials to further our inquiry studies as we partner with our families, community, and the world around us.

Materials are tools and guides used to enhance our learning experiences as we search for the answers to our questions and wonders. We may be small, but we are mighty in our play and exploration!

My Project

Our school is located next to a busy interstate and there is limited outdoor space for our children to play in. We are within walking distance to Prospect Park, an open space filled with nature growing from corner to corner. We have designated one morning every week where the children will have the opportunity to disengage from the busy city life and reconnect with the natural world that surrounds them. Within the park, children are free to explore natural materials (dirt, puddles, stones, acorns, and much more) through their five senses. Developing a relationship with nature takes time and patience on both ends - from the children and nature itself! The children experience how to take care of, play with, and respect nature as they physically interact with the pieces of nature that they encounter within the park.

Many of the children eagerly jump in and touch the wet and gooey aspects of nature with excitement, joy, and curiosity.

These mornings spent in the park are opportunities for the children to feel free and uninhibited as they encounter all different sides of nature. Muddy Buddy suits will provide each child with an extra layer of protection in confidently exploring the dry and wet aspects of the park. A class set of these suits will enhance the experiences with play and nature for every child to step into my classroom for years to come.

I hope that as my students interact and develop a consistent relationship with nature that it will transform into one of love and stewardship- that each child will grow to strive to nurture and protect the planet that we live on. I hope that these moments will build up leaders, advocates, and activists who step up boldly in passion with fond memories of time spent with nature.
