Like many teachers, I spend my days with a diverse group of learners. They are from all facets of society, various family structures, personal struggles, and socio-economic situations. Some of them are multiple grade levels behind in reading, and some, even in the same section, are reading several grade levels ahead. I love that they are so diverse, but I am also extremely challenged by it.
I believe it is my job to make time in the day to plan and assess for student learning to ensure ALL of my learners are successful.
However, as with so many other things in life, there are so many plates to spin. I am currently striving to work efficiently, provide students with quality reading material, instruction, feedback, and to train my learners to be self-aware, reflective readers and writers. Join me on my journey!
My Project
If there is one thing I've learned over my past 6 years of teaching, it's that teaching will expand to fill the time you give it (thanks, teacher friend who taught me that exact phrase). However, I still struggle with knowing exactly how much time is REQUIRED. Sure, I have contract hours, but I definitely need more time than that to get everything done.
After searching high and low, I found Angela Watson's online workshop, The 40-Hour Teacher Workweek, which I believe will make me a more peaceful, focused, balanced teacher and help me to do be my best so my students can learn their best.
Membership in Angela's "club" is sold on a yearly basis, and it is approved by DonorsChoose as a great professional development opportunity. One year in this club gives me access to all of Angela's materials for life, so helping me become a better teacher this year will reap benefits far into the future. Join me in making my classroom a peaceful, organized learning environment run by a prepared, balanced teacher.
