My Students

Our school strives to empower all of our students. My students all have the capabilities, talents, and strengths to engage with power and agency in our changing world. They strive for excellence and inherently care about one another, continually making an effort to improve in all aspects.

They deserve a learning environment and instruction that promotes engagement, academic excellence, self-confidence, independence, risk and resilience.

My third grade students attend their neighborhood school where all of them receive free lunch and many come from families that speak a language other than English. Our school qualifies for Title I funding, and about 35% of our students receive English as a second language instruction. We have dedicated families that struggle to support their students due to the need to work multiple jobs and/or a language expertise.

My Project

As a class we will read Because of Winn Dixie and study character traits and even delve into the work of watching how a character changes throughout a story.

When we finish, my students would enjoy celebrating with a party that focuses on important aspects of the book.

Students will get to adopt a stuffed puppy just like the girl in the book and be able to list the character traits of their new pet. Adding in items like a notebook, pencil and eraser will encourage my students to use their new reading strategies for more books.
