Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Out of my class of twenty children, only one child has more than one book at home. This means that while my first graders, who are 85% English Language Learners and 100% served by the free and reduced lunch program, are developing their identities as readers and reading skills they will not have the opportunity to read at home.

I would love to be able to help my families start developing libraries at home. Unfortunately, neither my personal financial situation nor the school budget will allow me to purchase books for my students to keep.

With your support, we can give each of my twenty students and their families three high quality, high interest, new, clean books to keep at home to read over and over again. Once they have books in their homes, I pledge to ensure that the families start having family bedtime stories and other family literacy traditions that will catapult their children into reading!

You can be the difference in these children's lives. We need to show them that they deserve to have books at home and that we believe in their potential!
