My Project

Our PreK class is housed in a metal demountable with no air conditioning, and three windows all located on the same sunny side of the building so there is no cross-ventilation. We are in school until mid-June, and return in mid-August, when the outside temperatures often reach into the upper 80s or even the 90s. My classroom's air temperature has already reached 91 degrees earlier this month, and we are dismissing early the next two days because the outside temperatures will be in the 90s and it is quite possible our classroom temperature will near 100.

Even though my students are eager learners, even they find it hard to learn when they are in such uncomfortable heat.

A portable air conditioner would help me to give them a learning environment where they can more easily focus on their learning rather than their discomfort. While it may seem silly to ask for something like this that will probably only be used for a couple of months each year, it is an item that would vastly improve the comfort of many of our students, some of whom do not have air conditioning in their homes, either. My students love to come to school, but no one loves to be drenched in sweat all day.
