Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Help us in our fundraising efforts and vocational training! I teach a Special Education Functional Life Skills class. My students range from the 9th to 12th grade. Our school is high poverty with the majority of my students receiving free lunches.

My students receive academic and vocational training. The vocational training is tied in with our fundraisers. We raise funds for Special Olympics, Community-based instruction and school activities. We have been very successful in raising funds with our previous sales of cookies. However, the state of Texas does not approve of sweets being sold at schools any longer. As a result, we have suffered financially.

In order to raise funds, we have been approved to sell bracelets. Students and staff are very excited to create them, but we need the basics. We are asking for beads and tools necessary to get us started in our endeavor. Students will independently create these bracelets and sell them in their community. Students will learn important vocational skills, such as following multi-step directions. They will also have an opportunity to interact with the members of their community in a professional manner.

Your help will ensure that my students will get the materials to start our new fundraiser. This fundraiser will allow them to participate in many activities that they look forward to all year. Above all, they will gain skills that will help them with employment after High School.
