Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are working towards achieving a love and understanding of wellness. The act of wellness encompasses all aspects of our life: physical as well as mental. My students would undoubtedly benefit from having the supplies to practice and learn about how to develop healthy coping strategies when dealing with adverse situations. This work will be rooted in the development and practice of social-emotional skills and the acquisition of knowledge needed to address this ever-changing world. Funding this project will allow my students to have access to solid nutrition, yoga, brain biology, and the understanding of the impact of food choices on their health.

Wellness is a verb.

I have no doubt that my students will enormously benefit from the "work of wellness." By funding this project, students will obtain the supplies necessary to make a lifelong change in their lives.

My Project

Social-emotional learning is critical to navigating the middle school and high school experience. Students' brains, at this age, are immature and still developing an awareness of their emotions. Developing an understanding of the brain and then connecting it via dissection of a sheep brain can be transformative. Having the knowledge about the power of breath and then practicing mediation will provide them will a skill set that they can take anywhere. Having access to nutritious snacks will help these learners realize how much better they feel when they eat well. When they understand the biological origins of their emotions and learn techniques to manage their well-being, they will make better decisions.

This work is critical to help students steer through an ever-changing world.

The students at my school will be empowered as they learn to recognize their feelings and develop healthy strategies to manage their feelings.
