"Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement. Nothing can be done without hope and confidence." A day in my class typically starts with high-five and a bright "GOOD MORNING!" While enjoying breakfast in the classroom, we share stories about our weekend or the night before.
My 4th, 5th, and 6th-grade students come to class with the eagerness to learn!
When they walk into the classroom, they have an opportunity to truly be themselves, whether it be expressing themselves through arts, reading, sports, or sharing their love for mathematics. I have 17 wonderful students in my Special Education classroom. The students in my classroom have disabilities ranging from Specific Learning Disabilities to Autism Spectrum Disorder to Emotional Behaviors. In addition, 10 of my 17 students are English Language Learners. My wonderful school is located in the heart of South Los Angeles, and many of the families are considered low-income. Within the neighborhood, the students are exposed to a variety of challenges on a daily basis (gang violence, poverty, drugs, etc.). However, none of these factors hinder their passion for learning.
My Project
My students are currently learning about Ancient Civilizations for Social Studies! Our next unit will be all about Ancient Greece! Of course, if I teach my students about Ancient Greece-- I have to teach my students all about Greek Mythology! These books will excite my students about Social Studies, specifically learning about Ancient Greece.
I can't wait to see my student's reactions when they learn about Greek Mythology!
I will utilize these books in small groups--encouraging my students to read and discuss the array of Greek myths they will learn. Additionally, I will have my students use these books towards projects! These books will help my students in so many ways. It'll help them with reading, reading comprehension, research, listening, speaking, discussions, etc. Remember, be their Hercules and help them learn!
