My Project

Help me give my students a literal voice in their own education! My students are joyful learners that regard the natural world as one full of mystery and wonder.

They regularly ask me for more learning experiences before & after school and even during recess.

However, due to limited resources, staff shortages and time constraints they are rarely given the opportunities to investigate their surroundings outside of a few short carefully curated science units. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to help these children on their own voyage of self discovery?

With a pro 4 track portable recorder and 4 digital voice recorders, students can begin to explore science and the scientific process more authentically. They would be able to investigate the properties of sound, everywhere. They will be able to discover for themselves that sound quality varies by location AND equipment individually or in small groups. Furthermore, they will not be distracted by the use of problematic technology such as iPads or cell phones.

Can you imagine a group of children instead of limited to their own vocabulary, being able to aurally describe a Fall season experience with minute-long clip of howling wind and crunching leaves underfoot?

Additionally, the pro 4 track portable recorder and 4 digital voice recorders will help English learners as they will have access to rich oral language through the recordings of their native speaker peers. Students would be eager to record academic sound material such as vocabulary or read alouds as well for their peers.

Finally, it gives our students the opportunity to create a professional podcast and interview other students. It shall help inspire our students to a lifelong love of learning!
