This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am teaching a fabulous group of first grade ESOL and Non-ESOL students in a Title 1 school who are eager to learn and grow.

One of my goals this year is to help students understand that all around the world, different people experience the same emotions as they use science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) to improve our lives.

I am kindly asking the DonorsChoose community to help me bring my project to life by donating to my classroom.

The book “We’re the Same, We’re Different” is a delightful book to help little ones to understand the concept of same and different. The STEM magnetic and plastic block sets will enhance students’ growth in science exploration as they create designs that are different and the same in the classroom.

We will use the dishwashing liquid and the glycerin for a bubble exploration activity. We will design bubble wands with pipe cleaners (not requested because I have these in the classroom) to see if the bubbles match the shape of the design. The individual bottles of bubbles will go home along with new pipe cleaners for redesigning.

The different items that will go into each gift bag will also help students to understand that we’re all the same because we get those same feelings of excitement when we use our imagination to create different things.

I am intentional with the request of the brown bags because my students and I have a “tan” skin color and students will decorate their bags in their own special and unique way. This will once again demonstrate the concept of same and different.
