This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our students love to have fun, play video games, read graphic novels, and make models.
We're creating a new Makerspace in our Library where students will have fun with lots of hands-on activities, artwork from recycled products, and learning how to create electrical circuits, among other projects.
Our students want to learn and try activities that will help them in the future. They love to come to the library to stretch their minds, build and create things. The challenge is having the equipment and supplies they need to allow them to build, explore, and collaborate.
My students come from a variety of backgrounds and family situations, including many single parents, low-income households, and foster homes.
We work very hard to provide innovative and hands-on learning experiences for our students and our Library Makerspace is no exception.
My Project
The Makerspace supplies will allow our students to experiment while building with Legos, designing Amusement Park rides with the K'Nex, creating jewelry with the Perler beads, and learning about circuit board design with Makey-Makey kits. The Perler beads will also teach how to use X and Y axis coordinates to create visual pictures, a valuable lesson for any graphic design.
These cross-curricular activities will provide hands-on experiences to our students while they are having fun playing and designing in our Library Makerspace.
The experiences the students have with these supplies will foster critical thinking and collaborative projects that will cross over into Math, Art, and Technology lessons.
More than half of students from low‑income households
