Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"We have big plans"--That's my classroom motto. I believe that preschool students with autism have incredible potential locked inside and it's my privilege (as their teacher) to use strategic interventions that transform hidden potential into promising talent.

I teach preschool students (ages 3-5) with autism and severe communication delays in a Title 1 school in Arizona.

My students experience challenges like: learning school skills, nervousness interacting with others, difficulty understanding social skills like sharing, inability to speak to make requests for wants/needs, and difficulty focusing on age-appropriate tasks. Despite these challenges, my students all have unique gifts and skills that are growing every day. My students love to learn, get off the bus every day with huge smiles, and have families that are dedicated to their progress (despite lack of financial resources). Some day, these particular kids could solve the world problems with their unique viewpoint...IF they are given challenging opportunities that encourage them to take that next step!

My Project

Do you remember childhood exploration that AMAZED you? In my classroom, we have "big plans" to learn about science! These are amazing materials for my students to explore, examine, and analyze. The science viewers are like cameras with pictures that change when the kids push a lever. So neat! The 3D viewers are colored lenses and prisms to gaze through and experiment with light! The color changing squares respond to the heat of their hands. The liquid discovery tubes are filled with materials that move inside when the kids shake, wiggle, or turn the tubes. They are really interesting! The magnet gears will encourage exploration with magnets and cause/effect. Teaching science for preschool students with autism is challenging because safety is a concern. These materials are safe and fun! They will enrich my students' experiences and opportunities to learn about science through experimentation. We would love your support with this project!

Research shows that early intervention special education programs make a huge difference on the overall outcome for kids.

If you'd like to make an impact on my precious kids, their low income families with big dreams for their children, and a classroom staff that works tirelessly to come up with creative solutions to motivate students...you have found your project! Please be a part of our "Big Plans" as we develop skills needed to be successful in kindergarten and beyond!
