My Students

My students are bright eyed and ready to please! Over 90% of my students come to school with a primary language other than English. They are from immigrant families who receive free and reduced lunch status. Parents want them to do well in school but many struggle because they are learning to speak English or have other special learning needs. In spite of this, the children are happy to be in school and try their best.

Because of this, I want to do my best for them so that each one of them succeeds in school.

My work is not done until each child makes good progress and thrives in all subject areas throughout the school year.

My Project

My students love to play games where everyone is the winner. They brainstormed different things that they could do with a partner during P.E. time so that everyone is the winner, and no one is the loser. The students felt that games that were too competitive hurt some students’ feelings.

The students came up with some activities that they wanted to do.

One of their top choices for active activities was bowling! Some of the students have older siblings who have gone on field trips to bowling alleys. My students wanted to do bowling activities, just like their siblings. As we were unable to go on a field trip to a bowling alley, we decided to create our own bowling alley in our school yard!

Students suggested that students form partnerships and take turns trying to knock down the pins with the bowling balls. To make the game non-competitive, the entire team will receive a point each time a partner knocks down a pin.

By structuring the game this way, all partnerships and players are winners! Everyone is encouraged to help everyone else. The focus of the game is to have fun while helping each other improve skills.

With your generous donations for bowling sets and bags to carry them, these students will be thoroughly engaged in many physical activities that will get them moving for at least 60 minutes each day! Students will be learning lifelong, valuable lessons in building strong, healthy bodies.
