Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are amazing human beings! They are full of life and have endless potential to do so many wonderful things. My school is a Title I school in a poverty-stricken community. Our school receives a grant that allows every child to have free breakfast and lunch served at school due to food insecurities at home. Many of our parents struggle to help meet the needs of school supplies and the needs of their children. Regardless of these circumstances, my students overcome! They are learning how to face challenges and grow stronger academically, socially and emotionally preparing them for the next level of life.

I believe that these students deserve every opportunity this world has to offer and I am determined to help them get it.

These students can change the world with their brilliant minds and can climb out of the cycle of poverty through the gift of education. They will learn that the world is theirs for the taking with hard work, dedication, and knowledge.

My Project

As teachers and donors like yourself, we are constantly giving. Some circles call this pouring onto others. In time no matter the amount, eventually the pouring runs out and you're on empty. Maybe it's because of the teaching stress. Maybe it's family stress. Maybe it's simply, you were running late & didn't buy your daily Starbucks Latte. Whatever it is, life wears us down.

You and I pour so much into others and that oftentimes we forget to fill my own cups.

Noticing how blessed my students and I are to have 5 projects funded in one day, got me thinking about how I can improve. Yes, I'll read those picture and chapter books and will learn, but what about books more suited for the teacher me? Adult books fill me up. My students know I prioritize silent reading my own books in front of them while they read their books.

As I try not to do any school work during my spring break and be brave and venture out on my own, I think back on what can I do when I don't get a week's worth of vacation. To that my answer is...read!
