The students are alert and ready to learn. They are thirsty for knowledge and a challenge. Many students are reading 3 or more grade levels above their same aged peers.
They thrive in a collaborative learning environment and enjoy experiencing additional challenges.
They pick up on topics quickly and usually only need one lesson to grasp a topic. They are creative learners who love to read.
They seek additional information outside of their classroom learning and assignments. That is where the media center comes into play. The students at our school are inquisitive and interested in the world around them.
Since our school is an International Baccalaureate school, we focus on international studies and the world around us.
My Project
The books for this project are from the Sunshine State Young Reader Awards. A group of school librarians select these award winning books each year. We emphasize these books in the media center for our students to read. They are all high quality books. "Sunshine State books are selected for their wide appeal, literary value, varied genres, curriculum connections, and/or multicultural representation."
These books are very popular and we cannot keep them on the shelf.
Having these extras will allow more students to access the quality content at home as well as at school.
