A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
After presenting the title selection for this year, our students are excited to start reading for the 2013-2014 Battle of the Books competition! Unfortunately, we don't have enough copies of all of the books yet!
The students that have already signed up for Battle of the Books range from avid advanced readers to our most reluctant readers.
Many of our students don't have a way to make it to the local public library or a bookstore, so they really look to our school library to provide all of the books that they read. They are incredibly excited about this year's title selection and they can't wait to get their hands on these books!
My Project
Students that sign up to compete in Battle of the Books will check out copies of books from the school library so they can prepare. The requested books like Out of My Mind and The Trap cover a range of genres, formats, and reading levels. The competition at the end of the school year requires that teams of four be able to answer questions about all eleven books chosen for this year's competition. The students will be reading quality science fiction, realistic fiction, survival fiction, and sports fiction titles that range from a comfortable to a challenging reading level.
Battle of the Books is an amazing literacy program.
The students get exposed to great literature and the competition really gets them excited about reading! Since last week's presentation of the titles for this year's competition I have had some of our most reluctant readers asking me where they can find the different titles they are planning on reading. These books continue to have an impact on our school for years to come, because they quickly become our library's most popular titles!
