My Students

Curious, Inquisitive, and Interested in the world around them. This is how I describe my 22 second graders and our daily learning climate.

My students are always eager to learn and they love a challenge.

We have a little bit of every type of personality in our classroom and we are group that celebrates our differences and grow from learning with each other on a daily basis. There is a bond that develops when you experience new exciting things. I strive for my classroom to be the community that fosters that bonding between the students and myself while instilling a foundation for a lifetime of learning.

My Project

I would like to use these materials to capitalize on my students natural curiosity and enthusiasm for spiders and bats, especially during the month of October!

Can you imagine a research project that is produced by an enthusiastic second grader?

Second graders love to research animals! Natural enthusiasm combined with text written at their independent reading level and vivid illustrations will allow us to take a deep dive into creatures that interest my young learners while also learning about non fiction text characteristics, informational writing, determining facts and details as well as many other skills that are critical to the students of today and tomorrow.

I am requesting a classroom set of National Geographic Readers about Bats and a set of National Geographic Readers about Spiders written with the younger elementary student in mind. My students LOVE researching and learning about animals. These readers are the perfect tool for the students to gain skills with non-fiction texts in a format that allows them to dig in and pursue a topic that interests them written at a level that allows them to feel ownership over their learning. A confident learner is a lifelong learner.

A classroom set of these books will provide each student with the opportunity to interact with their own text. They will be able to read at their pace, study pictures at their pace, and examine creatures at their own pace!
