Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As an incentive for your students our school participates in a basketball league. The students are chosen not only on athletic ability but on their academics and behavior. Every year we have more than one hundred children try out for the two teams.

The students on the basketball team are comprised of academically at risk students, behaviorally at risk students, and students that are being rewarded for positive behavior and academic success.

The students come from families that do not have much. Most of the students receive free breakfast and free lunch everyday and those are the only hot meals they have. Our school tries very hard to give our students everything we can however with budget cuts our students are not always able to receive everything they need.

My Project

The girls and boys basketballs teams need new basketballs. We currently only have two balls that bounce and one of the two balls is falling apart. The teams practice every week for two hours and it teaches them team work and respect for themselves and for others who they might not have known prior to making the team. These teams make the students feel like they are part of a family and it creates a bond between them. The only way for these students to improve is if they have basketballs that they can practice with.

This donation will improve my girls in many ways.

It will show them that people care enough to give them the materials they need to succeed. It will also show them that with hard work and effort they can become better ball players. By receiving this donation it will allow the girls to become a closer team and hopefully give them success.
