My Students

Our transitional kindergarten and kindergarten students love to play basketball but now our portable basketball hoop has no net and is put together by duct tape. One basketball hoop for 120 kids is not enough.

We have over 120 transitional kindergarten and kindergarten students using the kindergarten yard everyday.

Our school serves free breakfast to all of our students. About 75 percent of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch. Our students work very hard in the classroom and they deserve to go out and have fun. We have very limited play equipment on the yard. I would love for our students to be active in a healthy, positive way that allows them to interact and play with others.

My Project

We have about 60 five and six year olds playing on the playground at one time. I know the children would love the basketball hoops and balls.

Everyday I see them playing basketball on our one portable basketball hoop that has no net and is put together by duct tape.

What joy and excitement they would experience to actually shoot a ball into a hoop with a real net. I know I get excited when I make a basket and see the ball go through the net.. It will also, be good for their motor skills and especially hand-eye coordination. It has social benefits, too. They will learn to share, take turns, encourage one another and learn to be a great team player. As they get better, self confidence will come. In life, these are all important skills for everyone.

Due to budget cuts, our school has no money for outdoor equipment. By donating to this project, you will help over 120 students physically, emotionally and mentally. Our students definitely love to learn in the classroom but they also need time to play outside and enjoy each other. Please give our students and future students the chance to experience teamwork and success outside of the classroom!
