My Students

It seems as if most of my middle school students have a goal to be professional basketball player. Luckily for them, the basketball season is just a few months away. I hope to bring their skill set to the next level so we can have an amazing season.

We are a new school in a co-located building.

We are lucky to have three basketball hoops inside the Gymnasium, which is a two classroom conversion. We also have two outside nets in the playground area. My students never seem to fail to ask, "Are we playing basketball today?" even if we are in the middle of our football or hockey unit. I want my students to want to come to school every day, not only for their education, but to able to go to a place where they can be safe and have positive interactions.

My Project

I plan on using the basketballs to enhance the school's basketball team. I like to hold practice before school so I know that they will get to their first class on time. This is also an opportunity for me to sit with them during breakfast to get a sense of how they are doing and what kind of day they will have. With a co-located building, gym time is at a premium. With the outdoor space for practices, students will be able to have ample time to practice and improve their skills.

Middle school is a time where students are trying to find themselves and a place to fit in.

I believe I can enhance their middle school experience by providing them with a safe place to come every day, and work with each other to accomplish a common goal. Most of my students have big dreams. I plan to foster their dreams by creating a place for them to keep dreaming.
