My Project

Our curriculum for sophomore and junior English Language Arts requires a lot of independent reading. These books can be challenging for students to interpret, and without the right supplies, the learning becomes even more challenging!

Students learn best through talking, which requires having supplies for organized systems.

The storage will be used to organize books and materials that help craft conversations. The post-it notes (big and small!) are crucial to helping students visualize their thinking and work through big problems in books. Expo markers are used for students to draw on their desks and on the boards. All of these supplies help students to work through how evidence fits together, find themes and patterns, and compare characters. Additionally, hygiene products are essential to students feeling comfortable in the classroom, where they can have access to what they need. Having these supplies is essential to creating routines for students to learn their best!

All of these supplies are also crucial for understanding in students with disabilities and multilingual learners. Being able to visualize things in large print or use sticky notes as manipulatives makes the English language come to life. It's the same with organization--knowing where things are and having systems makes students more comfortable, and enables them to take risks with language.
