My Project

I'm a Special Education teacher and literacy coach supporting teachers and students in kindergarten through fifth grade in an elementary school. This school is a Title I funded school, and the majority of the students I support receive free breakfast and lunch.

The neighborhood my school is located in contains one of the city's largest public housing developments, and most of my students reside there.

Due to the geographic location of the neighborhood, there are few trains and bus routes servicing the community, so my students are very isolated from all of the bells and whistles of the city.

After a few years in the same classroom, I am moving down the hall to another room. I am requesting bulletin board materials like backing paper and magnetic border to make this new room bright and colorful. Bulletin boards are a big deal in a classroom!--they house our anchor charts and exemplar work and become a go-to reference spot for students. Having bright, colorful backing helps make the classroom a warm and welcoming place that students enjoy learning in. The magnetic borders will help transform a drab magnetic chalkboard into an interactive place for learning materials and schedules. The fairy lights help soften the hard overhead lights in the classroom which can cause headaches, and the surge protector provides us with a few additional outlets so that we can keep our iPads and laptops charged for long days of learning.
