Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from a low income neighborhood which is also the setting for our NYC school. Many of my students have emotional and behavioral issues and will spend the year learning how to effectively deal with emotionally driven rage, as well as how to successfully handle negative situations through peer mediation. My classroom is designed to integrate typically developing students and students with developmental disabilities. I teach a group of students who are eager to learn and participate in every lesson. My school promotes inclusive learning, and we work hard as a school to foster a sense of community amongst the entire staff, families, and the neighborhood.

My Project

A supply list went home at the start of the school year, but a majority of my students returned to school with little to no supplies. These basic materials are a luxury to many of my students. It is essential that a child should not feel left out, less than, or embarrassed because they are not in a position to obtain notebooks and folders. I have also included items that will assist with instruction. Colored chart paper and markers go a long way during instruction and can promote student engagement. An item such as the printer will help supply daily homework for students and weekly class reports for parents.
