Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students work to beat overwhelming odds everyday. Each day, they show up to school, wanting to learn. There are so many barriers that they fight against; poverty, language, disabilities. And yet, each day, they continue to come into my classroom to learn.

My students are living in a world where they come to school without the basic supplies needed to be successful.

A typical day in my classroom is working on reading comprehension skills. My eighth grade students come to me completely unprepared to read and understand grade level work, and they need materials to help them succeed.

Poverty and language barriers are only some of the barriers my students face in order to become proficient readers. Many of my students have learning disabilities, as well as come from low socioeconomic families. Basic school supplies will greatly increase my students chance of succeeding, as well as creating the equality they deserve in the classroom. My students are well below grade level, but I can see they want to learn and succeed in school, and these supplies will help ease their anxieties about not having supplies.

My Project

My students are sometimes embarrassed to come to school because they don't have the basic supplies needed to be successful in the classroom. The buzzers will help students learn healthy competition and teamwork through competing to find the correct answers in ELA driven games.

Simple supplies like notebooks and pencils, and Post-it notes for learning to close read will help these students feel successful and take some anxiety away about beginning the new year unprepared.

Copy paper and ink are needed because in this technology driven age, all students deserve the chance to learn how to properly use technology. Their hard work will be printed out and displayed for their fellow classmates and teachers to see.
