This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Hi there! I am a special education teacher in a fifth grade integrated co-teaching classroom. We are a Title I school located in Woodhaven, NY. My co-teachers and I have an academically diverse group of learners in our classroom, ranging in reading levels from Pre-A through Y. This means differentiation is key in every lesson, and we require many additional basic materials.
With such a diverse group of learners, we are always looking for ways to engage each and every student.
This often means going beyond the provided curriculum, being creative with the resources we select, and giving students a variety of entry points - regardless of their ability level. We digitally create many of our own resources, which requires a lot of extra paper! Because of this, we are asking for paper products such as copy paper, colorful paper, and post-its to support our instruction across all subject areas. Other office supplies, such as staples, tape, paper clips, binder clips, etc, are needed throughout the day to organize student materials and portfolios. These basic materials are highly valuable to us and we go through them very quickly! With your donation towards these items, we will be able to provide appropriate instruction and support to small groups during lessons with learners who are working towards meeting IEP goals.
Students will also use the post-its to participate in class activities like "stop and jot," responding to their reading, and partner work. We use post-its daily!
In our small groups, we use dry erase boards and markers to show our work. We are asking for new markers so we may continue sharing our work in this way.
Please consider donating to our project! We are grateful for the generous support we have received through DonorsChoose. Thank you!
