My Project

I will be starting an inclusion class in my school this fall. It will be the first year that a class of this nature will be in my school building. I will have new middle school students that have autism spectrum disorder and intellectual disabilities. This project will provide them with the necessary supplies needed to create a warm and inviting classroom. This will thus give my students with unique needs safe space.

When students experience stress or trauma at home or are overwhelmed in school, their nervous systems respond.

Some students become extremely active while others shut down. I want my classroom to help my students stay engaged in the learning process. I am a tremendous proponent of social emotional learning and I would love my new classroom to be set up in a way where my students can reset when needed. The use of these items like the affirmation/inspirational posters and pillows will transform the culture of the classroom because it will empower my students every time they are in the classroom. The other items listed like the dry erase activity table and all of the organization material will keep my students engaged and structured.
