My Students

Were some of your fondest memories in high school about chemistry class? They would be if you took my class. It is my goal to make Chemistry engaging, interesting, and relevant to my students. Help me teach my students about global warming and being a positive change in the environment!

I teach in a large urban school district where poverty is very high.

My students will be the first in their families to graduate high school! However, I am pushing them for more. By successfully completing Chemistry, my students will qualify to attend a four year college. I constantly work on supporting them not only get to college, but have the necessary skills to be successful there. In addition, many students are interested in studying about the environment. And why shouldn't they? Global warming and protecting our earth are lessons our students will have to teach their own children one day.

My Project

With budget cuts at an all time high, my lab program is in danger for next year. Simply, we need some basic materials to begin the year. These materials will help support my students as they develop lab skills while learning about the world we live in and how to protect it. The diffraction gratings and spectrum bulbs will help students learn about spectrometry and how light moves through gases and pollution. The metal samples, sandpaper and hammers will support students as they test different metals in the periodic table and look at metallic poisoning. The vanilla and balloons will be used for students to study how small molecules are. Not only will I use these materials to teach students how chemistry affects their lives, but also the world around them. We will study pollution's affect on water, air, and soil.

It is really important to support high school lab programs because without labs, what is chemistry?

I really appreciate you considering my proposal and know that the materials you've donated will help students be successful in high school, prepare for college, and learn how easily the world around them is influenced by their decisions.
