Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I work for the New York City Department of Education in a Title 1 school in the Bronx. Our city school budgets have been drastically cut this school year; fully impacting the supplies that my title 1 students receive.
Every school year, we usually are able to receive basic supplies from our school such as drawing paper, crayons, markers, pencils, among other things; but this school year the budget cuts that have been imposed on city agencies have left our school supply room extremely bare, with no option to repurchase anything this school year.
My 2nd grade students are constantly doing ELA, math and other projects and they do not have these basic materials to allow them to be more creative with their work and make their learning more enjoyable.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
