Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students in my classroom come from a variety of economic and cultural backgrounds. My students are all on the autism spectrum and each face their own challenges, however, they each have their own strengths and abilities! My students are 3 and 4 years old and for many, this is their first school experience! They have to cope with separation anxiety, learn the routine of school and the structure of the day. They require visual supports to get them through their school day.

My students are creative, enthusiastic, and strong!

They love to move, listen to stories, sing songs, and love lots of positive attention! We learn during small and large group time. We also have a great deal of individual one on one learning! I focus on each child's individual potential each day. They are all so different and unique!

My Project

My students need basic supplies to start off our school year! My students are in the pre-writing stage, using large crayons and small golf pencils to help with their grasp. In pre-k, we use construction paper everyday! Students use construction paper for pre-writing activities as well as in the art center to create their own masterpieces. My students are able to create their own collages, which requires glue. We also use small white boards for drawing/writing which is why we need dry erase markers. We also need some basics such as ink and copy paper to print pictures for their communication systems and visual schedules. My class uses pictures all day with the students to help them gain an understanding of their surroundings and to help know what is expected of them. They require visual supports (in pictures and words) to help them understand directions. We use pictures on first/then boards so they can see what they have to do next. My students have a difficult time with transitions and understanding verbal language. Pictures help them understand what is happening in their world around them. Supplies that make the teachers successful in preparing activities include staples, tape, and paper clips!

All of the materials requested will definitely be utilized within the FIRST week of school!

I have chosen supplies for all of the pre-k students. Each requested item is used frequently and we tend to run out quickly.
