Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Keep first graders engaged! I teach first grade in a K-8 school in a large city. My classroom is a buzz of activity with thirty students cheering each others' achievements in reading, writing, math, science and social studies.

The children are truly a community of learners who are reassured that it's okay to make mistakes and that is in fact, how people learn.

All of my students truly enjoy STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) learning because it's fun! My students need STEM materials to stay engaged.

My Project

Young learners work best when there is a variety of materials available to meet their strengths. Materials such as chart paper, colorful markers and highlighters allow students to work on group posters, signs and other creative projects. In the past, my students have designed such things as posters for a First Grade Lemonade stand using paper and markers. They have designed maps in Social Studies and graphs for math.

The large chart paper enables a group of 5 or 6 children to have ample room to work together on a "canvas".

Supplies such as staplers allow me to display student work. Tape is essential for a smoothly running classroom. Highlighters will be used by me to help organize the children's writing. They will be use by the children to sort word patterns. The sharpie markers are needed to label students' belongings.

Although the supplies seem like basic necessities, they are the lifeblood of a successful classroom. Your support is appreciated.
