My Students

I am a Language Arts teacher at a middle school in New York City. The population of my school and class is very diverse. Over 95% of my school's population receives free lunch, which is a strong indicator that the overwhelming majority of students come from lower-level income households. This, however, doesn't slow us down. Not one bit.

I have an incredible group of resilient students who need some basic supplies to help them succeed in the classroom.

In the past, there has been more funding for supplies, but with recent budget issues, many basic supplies have disappeared from the supply room. Help give students some common, everyday items so they can come back to the classroom better than ever.

My Project

Pencils. Folders. Disinfecting wipes. Those items probably don't sound too thrilling to you, but if I could magically pull them out of my supply closet for my students to use, there would be TREMENDOUS cheers that would fill my classroom (and probably overflow into the halls too). Now more than ever, students are struggling to get everyday items, which isn't a feeling we want anyone to experience.

Many students are lacking basic items because families are struggling to find enough money during these times.

With your help, kids won't have to feel embarrassed or unprepared when it comes to having classroom materials and essentials. They'll get back to being organized and ready for anything that middle school will throw at them.
