Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach third grade in a high-need community at a Title I school. Two-thirds of the students in my class are limited in their English proficiency.

While facing many issues of language acquisition, we are working hard to make Math accessible to all. I could not describe a more motivated group than this class I have, yet many are struggling to make more than one year's growth to finish the year on grade level in Math.

In this request, I have identified manipulatives in the areas my children face some of their greatest struggles: measurement, statistics and probability and geometry. With materials such as these, students will be able to accurately measure and compare volume and mass. The chart-size graph paper will allow students to record and share data they collect in two integrated units of study; first focuses on states of matter and the second on rocks and minerals. Spinners and the game of Yahtzee will support our unit on probability.

Your help will greatly support my students in their learning in fun, engaging and meaningful ways.
