My Students

This is my first full year of teaching. I started teaching in the classroom, January 2021. My students come from a low-income area. Over 80% of our student population receives free or reduced-price lunches. I would like to provide a learning environment where the students can come to school feeling successful. Like many other educators, I am cultivating a strong learning community.

The sense of humor, curiosity, and level of resilience that these students possess amaze me.

My students are enrolled in a Title I funded school and are in the DHH (Deaf/Hard of Hearing) Program. They typically do not use their ears for learning, they rely heavily on what they see and feel. Because of the pandemic, it is imperative now more than ever for them to have their own materials.

My Project

Many of my students arrive at school without the basic essentials. This project includes paper, pencils, index cards, a dry erase board, stickers, masks, magnets, and more. They will be able to have their own materials. We will also have a space to practice the things we are learning on our dry erase board. I'm excited about the magnets because I will be able to display their most recent works with ease.

My goal is to have a classroom environment that keeps my students excited about coming to school; I know these materials will help set them up for academic success.

This project is also about building responsibility. Students are learning to take responsibility as they need to take care of the supplies so they have them each time they are needed. I love the ownership my students will acquire through this project.
