My students are English Language Learners with diverse backgrounds in Grades K-2. The majority come from low income families that are new to the United States. Most of the students speak Spanish at home but there are some that speak other languages as well. They face many challenges as they pursue their education in a Title I that is part of the New York City Department of Education. They aim toward a successful transition to upper grades and eventually to middle school.
My Project
During this very different school year these basic classroom supplies are needed to facilitate learning using our new blended model which includes in-person and remote learning. Personal Health and Safety is a top priority, particularly in this critical year.
Many of our students and their families chose to learn 100% remotely as health and safety was a big concern for them.
Since most students are from low income households, we provide them with basic supplies such as sharpened pencils, markers and worksheets when they work from home. Other students and their families felt that they would learn more if they spend time in school creating a need for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as masks and cleaning supplies as well the same basic supplies mentioned above.
