My Students

My day is always exacting, but never boring. I expend great energy teaching my twelve students with special needs to be self motivated and detail oriented. My goal is for them to feel, at the end of the school year, that they have done their very best despite any challenges they may have faced

One word that springs to mind when I think of my students is "fascinating".

Each, in his/her own unique way is the reason why sometimes I am in the school long after closing and very early in the morning. They challenge me to teach them to the highest standards. At at the end of the day, when one of them says, "school was fun today". I feel heartened and inspired to come back the next day to encourage them even more. They are special not because of their disabilities, but because of their desire to learn, their enthusiasm and eagerness to help one another. The majority of them have been together for a couple of years. With that familiarity among them, they may argue at times, but are equally willing to share a snack, assist with classwork or offer comfort if someone is sad. They are my "grape bunch" , with whom I can find many moments during the course of the day to say, "you've made me so happy".

My Project

A photocopy machine with copy paper are lifelines for a teacher. We constantly need copies for various aspects of students' work. Copies are required for homework packages, assessment tests, projects and other assignments. Sometimes it is difficult to get copies in the school, as has happened recently, where all the machines were out of toner/ink. It is essential for me to have access to a copy machine where I can ensure that all my students' work is ready for them, whether as an activity after instruction has been delivered, or for them to take home to complete an assignment. We desperately need a copy machine in our classroom to help us meet all our deadlines. Please help us to get a much needed copy machine, toner and copy paper to create self sufficiency in our classroom.

My classroom is an active and busy one, especially at this crucial time where my students are preparing to take the state exams.The materials I have requested will cut down on the enormous amount of time I have to run around trying to get copies done.

That time could be better spent on instructional preparation for my students. Having a copy machine in the classroom would be helpful when my students want to share their research papers. Please help us with this much needed commodity.
