I teach middle-school band to grades six to eight. The band serves about 210 students, and we only have about fifty instruments in the school. The students buy their own mouthpieces and play on the school instruments. It is a title one school, meaning most of the students receive free lunch.

My students rock! They LOVE making music; we play concert band stuff, jazz, rock, swing--you name it! They are fabulous little musicians who unfortunately don't have the means to buy their own instruments. That doesn't stop us from making music, but there just aren't that many instruments. They kids share, and the instruments suffer from a lot of wear and tear. They need more instruments in good working order.

We need concert band instruments: flutes, clarinets, alto saxophones, tenor saxophones, trumpets, and trombones. In this proposal I am asking for funding to purchase one alto saxophone. The kids will play on it during the school day at band rehearsals and in concerts.

Your generous donation will truly make a difference to a budding young musician! Even one saxophone will make band better for seven different students a week who play on it. The more instruments we have, the more kids will be able to play in the band.
