My Students

The majority of my students are English language learners and come from immigrant families. They are from an economically disadvantaged area in Los Angeles County. Due to their economic hardships, many of them have to work and fulfill other responsibilities at home in order to help their families.

Nonetheless, they are eager learners who work hard to be leaders in their community.

They aim to be the first in their families to go to college and graduate despite their hardships.

My Project

Whenever people think of chemistry class, they think of experiments with beakers and test tubes. While my classroom already has those things, what we lack are balances to correctly measure the substances that go into those beakers and test tubes. Currently, I share the 6 balances within my department with 3 other chemistry teachers, which puts a strain on when I can conduct labs with my students.

By getting these balances, my students will be able to practice laboratory skills with the proper equipment and become better scientists.

They will learn to measure accurately, see chemical reactions, and make connections between science and math as a result. Ultimately, I want to have the necessary tools to help my students succeed in my classroom and beyond.
