My Students

We are an inner-city school that serves a population of 80% free and reduced lunch. 35% of our students are ELL (English Language Learners). Like most children, our students have various study styles.

Many of my students have never participated in any form of fitness training, as many of them are glued to technology outside of the classroom.

A majority of our students participate is zero extra-curricular activities and also stay inside after school. The running and playing outside from years past, has been replaced by cell phones and gaming consoles. The increase in children's lack of fitness is cause for concern.

My Project

Our students work their bodies during recess and at our after-school fitness club. We currently have some equipment, but lack the physical space to house an entire gym. The adjustable dumbbells allow for our students to lift the appropriate weight and allows for storage in a relatively small space. The Power Stax Balance Trainer will allow for a variety of exercises that currently aren't possible with our Bosu Balance ball. The Power Stax provides an elevated surface for core exercises.

The strength of one's body directly affects the strength of one's mind.

As the students become more fit, an increase in confidence is attained which transfers to their schoolwork. As a byproduct of the increased fitness, students' attendance rates should improve.
