This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Many of my young students are able to focus and listen to a story but sometimes I have students who love to run or play in a chair while distracting me or other students. By introducing specialized tools and equipment like a slackline board and a spinning chair can greatly enhance the learning experience for children with ADHD. The slackline board provides a unique opportunity for sensory integration and physical engagement. Balancing on the slackline requires concentration and coordination, which can help children channel their excess energy positively.

For many kids diagnosed with ADHD, maintaining focus in a traditional classroom setting can be challenging.

The spinning chair serves a similar purpose, allowing children to engage in rhythmic movement that can stimulate their senses. By allowing children to move while they learn, these tools help bridge the gap between physical activity and cognitive engagement, ultimately leading to a more effective learning environment. The fidgets will allow my youngest classes to fidget with their hands instead of their bodies while reading.

The goals for this project involve not only fostering increased concentration and learning success for children with ADHD but also creating a classroom atmosphere where movement and flexibility are recognized as essential components of effective education. By incorporating such engaging tools, we aim to empower students to take ownership of their learning processes, cultivate their confidence, and promote a lifelong love for learning.

What makes our students special, especially in a Title I school, is their resilience and diverse backgrounds. Many of them face socio-economic challenges, yet they approach learning with remarkable enthusiasm and creativity. Providing them with tools like the slackline board and spinning chair recognizes their unique needs and transforms their learning experience, ultimately equipping them with strategies that can help them thrive both academically and socially.
