My Students

My students dream BIG! They inspire me every day to help them achieve their unique dreams and goals. I teach 6th, 7th, and 8th grade classes in what is considered an 'economically-disadvantaged' middle school. Without supplemental school supplies we find challenges that you can help us overcome! We are looking to start this year on the right foot - PREPARED for academic and life success!

I aim to instruct my students in a comprehensive manner, equipping them with skills that establish self-sufficiency, community awareness, and the ability to work in teams.

To do so requires an equipped environment and extra money is not something that my students and their parents/guardians regularly have, if ever. I keep aware of this, and make my school supply list very short and sweet for our students, knowing that inevitably I will end up purchasing classroom materials to provide a relevant and fun learning experience for my students.

My Project

We are about to begin a yearlong study of mathematics that will hopefully include excitement, enthusiasm, curiosity, and community. My students need baking supplies, containers, bread and popcorn makers, and measuring supplies. All of these resources will be integral to my students learning the importance of bread as a staple of community, as a scientific innovation borne from technological advancements, and as a awe inspiring mathematical and biochemical process. I plan on working both early mornings and during lunch periods to explore the significance of mathematical precision in the breadmaking process, as well as provide students with essential nutrition.

We are looking to explore math in the context of preparing students with academic and interpersonal skills that will actually improve their lives.

This is a hands-on, active learning experience that will be both relevant and remembered in the lives of my students.
