Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

For many of my students, moving to Rhode Island means the first opportunity to experience snow! For the last few years, our school has had a small ski club, offering students the opportunity to get out of the city and onto the snow. Teachers offer free ski or snowboarding lessons, and students get the opportunity to experience a winter sport that is otherwise inaccessible to them.

There are many financial barriers between our students and snow sports - the cost of tickets, equipment, proximity to the mountains, but more importantly, something as simple as basic outerwear and winter gear.

This project aims to solve a few of those problems. This year, we have the unique opportunity to take our students on multiple trips throughout the course of the winter, to experience a true Learn to Ski/Ride program. We supply everything, right down to the winter coat! But we don't have any gym bags for students to store their gear in! This project aims to purchase gym bags and luggage tags for students to store all of their school provided snow gear and safely transport it all to and from the mountain, as well as purchase warm winter socks and hand warmers to replenish our Ski Club closet!
