My Students

Children of today are fighting high obesity rates. In order to improve our children's health, we need to get them excited about exercise and nutrition! My students live in a high poverty area where school budgets have been cut drastically, which means that I have over-sized Physical Education classes.

My students are rambunctious preteens in an urban, poverty-stricken area of New York City.

They need physical activity not only for their overall health but to alleviate their high energy levels. With the proper equipment, we can help motivate them to become lifelong learners of health and fitness.

My Project

Students love the eye-hand coordination movements that are essential to play badminton. They love being able to play smaller, more individualized games. As a result, motivated students move more for longer periods of time which will increase their heart rates.

Aerobic exercise not only improves fitness; it also has known benefits for both physical and emotional health.

Throughout a match, a player will increase ones heart rate at the competition level, this will demand a high aerobic capacity.

It is my goal that my students will be able to play badminton at a highly competitive level to increase his/her own heart rate and help their mind think clearer throughout their school day.
