My Students

My students are bright eyed and ready to please! Over 90% of my students come to school with a primary language other than English. They are from immigrant families who receive free and reduced lunch status. Parents want them to do well in school but many struggle because they are learning to speak English or have other special learning needs. In spite of this, the children are happy to be in school and try their best.

Because of this, I want to do my best for them so that each one of them succeeds in school.

My work is not done until each child makes good progress and thrives in all subject areas throughout the school year.

My Project

Many of my students come to school without a backpack. They carry their homework papers in their pockets, all scrunched up or hold it in their hands – whether it’s rain or shine. Some lose their homework while traveling on their way to and from school.

I would like each of my students to have a backpack because backpacks are essential for school success … just like air is essential for breathing and living!

Students won’t do well until they have their basic needs met. Having a backpack for school is a basic need as it will allow students to organize their work, form good homework habits, and develop important study skills. A nice backpack will go far in motivating students to do their best and excel in school. With your generous donations, my students will have a better chance of school success because they will be more focused on education. Their minds will be ready to learn as one of their basic needs, a beloved backpack, will have been met.
